Popular on the web as Vheektor, Victor Okpala a well known presenter at 084tv and host of The Wah’Zup Zone has earlier this morning taken to his social pages to express his plight as regards the lyrical contents of Nigerian music of recent.
According to him, there are too many problems in the country that needs to be addressed and that our musicians should sing the right thing.
“I just woke up and I’m really upset. Music should be a gift, Music should reach out to people, Music should guide and give hope to people. It annoys me more when I see Award organizers nominate singers with Mediocre songs and Directionless Lyrics as ‘Artiste of The Year, Best Male or Female Artiste etc. What has Africa/Nigerian Music come to? Why are we upholding and celebrating mediocrity? If as an Artiste, you want to sing about love, then sing about real love. If you want to sing about your achievements and struggles as an individual, then sing about it without telling lies. Being a Musician is a serious responsibility. An upcoming artiste who doesn’t have a good phone will be talking about driving a Lamborghini, Sleeping with fine girls & popping Champagne. When there is Bad Governance, Poor Electricity & a lot of problems to talk about through the Music. Most of them don’t want to talk about these things through their music because they want to be friends with the commissioners & Government officials. Musicians are not doing anything through their music to Help Nigerians or Give Hope to their society. They care only about getting shows, getting endorsements and winning awards. Twisted Generation. #SingTheRightSongs”
