Comedian of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Nwachi few hours ago took to his social media pages to express grief as regards the neglect of the city by A-list Port Harcourt entertainment exports, he specifically mentioned Timaya, Duncan Mighty and Daniel Wilson to mention but few.
He made his points clear in the lengthy yet engaging write up below:
“As a music artiste to prove your career is in top flight you need to shoot a music video in the UK or south Africa as the case may be just so the fans will acknowledge your little effort and count it as you being made in the industry (you know the instagram lifestyle na).
I’m just a bit worried that the real superstars in the UK and U.S they shoot their own videos in their country mostly giving us here in Africa that all is well with them infact it is what we see on TV that increased our hunger to taste the goodies of their land that makes us queue up at their embassy like people living in a neighbour hood with just one serving pump. (don’t get me wrong I’m not saying our super stars here are not real).
I have lived in port harcourt all my life, at least I know a few streets here like the back of my palm we have grown to hear countless musicians grow out of the city giving us pride that good music was born here. I may not really call all the names but at least I know a few.
Duncan Mighty our own port harcourt first son (which he claimed to be) has done multiple hits that we have danced our tiny and large waists to but he is yet to sell port harcourt to the world through his music, besides the port harcourt boy anthem he did which he mentioned port harcourt a lot and celebrating every known and unknown politician who patronise his music and he couldn’t even do a decent video showing off the city in its richness and night life. Yet we are still unashamed to say he is a port harcourt boy.
Well Timaya I know for sure hustled between port harcourt and Lagos and besides that he is from Bayelsa but as long as he grew up on the streets of port harcourt we can proudly call him a port harcourt boy too is yet to sell port harcourt to the world being a very influential musician in present day Nigeria, I think he should come to PH city to shoot one of those his banging tunes video and it will be well appreciated.
For one there is one that so disappointed us here and that is korkormikor if you remember that his port harcourt anthem that got everybody screaming and shouting for joy anytime it comes up… it was something for y’all but the video wasn’t something for us, it was one of the worst video as long as lyrical representation was concerned and worst of it all a song made for the streets of port harcourt was shot in a night club in South Africa, I wonder how they wanted to convey the message of “from the slums in the city/ I broke into the scene”.. well that is passed now same with the music.
I wouldn’t want to talk about Daniel wilson whom we only know he’s a port harcourt boy because we were told so.
If all of these people could just take a look at Majar Briggs’ video (I know they weren’t the best at the time but he did a lot trying to show us some good places in port harcourt as well as his stomach and permed hair)
There are good places in port harcourt to do a good musical video as long as you have the right equipments at least burna boy proved that with his “follow me” video and yes the world followed him down here to shoot the video.
Imagine if all the superstars had come back to do a musical video regardless of the political struggle going down here don’t you think the attention of the world would shift a little from Lagos and they will look towards us a little and see what we have to offer.
This is what the ministry of culture and tourism should be looking towards, how to get people project port harcourt to the world and lure in foreign investors instead if trying to frustrate the efforts of local show organisers by trying a bill that will discourage people from showing the loving and social life inhibited in the city.”
